Behind the Lens

Welcome! I’m Elvia Fernald, founder of Desert Fern Photography.

After calling Dallas, Texas home for a few years, my family relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina in January 2026. Exploring our new environment has been an absolute joy. When I’m not homeschooling my three children or working, you can usually find us on a trail finding new spots for photoshoots, or relaxing at a local coffee spot with a cup in hand (a true daily necessity—just ask our dogs, Matcha and Latte!).

My photography journey began in 2016, three years before I had my first child. Motherhood and photography have grown hand-in-hand for me ever since. Being a mom inspires me every day to stay creative, push my boundaries, and capture the fleeting moments that matter most.

My goal with every session is simple: to offer a relaxed, fun environment where you can be yourself, resulting in bright, warm, candid portraiture that tells your unique story.
